KRT RIDER ALEX LOWES DOES THE DOUBLE AT WORLD SUPERBIKE SEASON OPENER
Kawasaki Racing Team rider Alex Lowes earned a superb race win in the 10 lap WorldSBK Superpole Race at Phillip Island and followed it up with a second victory on his Ninja® ZX™-10RR in a shortened Race 2. His KRT team-mate Axel Bassani scored points in each Sunday race, finishing 11th each time. A planned two part WorldSSP Race 2 at Phillip Island in Australia was reduced to a single nine lap contest after a long delay. Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider Can Öncü was 16th after being forced to avoid another competitor, running off track to do so.

“I am obviously very happy. It has been a big, important winter, changing many small details. I am fit and strong now, improving my confidence. I did a good job today. I am going to enjoy the moment because we did a really good job this week. To get two wins today was fantastic, and mixing it up there, I was really happy. “Even though I got the same result as yesterday, today's race was more satisfying. I was able to keep a good pace and the bike worked at its best. Due to the hot conditions I paid attention to tire wear during the race so as not to lose ground in the final stages - and I think I succeeded. Ninth place is not yet the result that the team or I deserve, but I consider it a step forward to greater competitiveness.”

“In this round our goal was to continue to adapt to the ZX-6R and to try to enter the top ten consistently. I think the balance is positive because today I finished ninth and I felt more comfortable on the bike. I hope that Öncü will be able to race again at Donington, but if that were not the case, I would be happy to remain a part of this team. I thank them for the excellent work done here at Misano.”
