KRT RIDERS TAKE ON HOME WEEKEND RACE IN BARCELONA
The final race day of KRT’s home weekend at the Barcelona - Catalunya circuit saw Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani compete in two races, the ten 10 Tissot Superpole race and the full 20-lap Race 2. The best single performance came from Lowes, who took fifth place in the Superpole Race.
Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider Can Öncü scored valuable championship points in WorldSSP Race 1 on Saturday after qualifying second fastest at the Circuit de Barcelona - Catalunya on Friday and finished second in Superpole. Starting from the front row Öncü had strong podium ambitions and even led the race for a period on lap two, and then again on lap four, but ended up finishing eighth overall on the day.
The FIM Supersport300 World Championship got off to a truly epic start. After finishing first in Race 1 returning WorldSSP300 rider and current IDM champion Inigo Iglesias Bravo (Füsport - RT Motorsports by SKM Kawasaki) was penalized and had to drop to 13th place. Undeterred he went on to win the second 12-lap race of the weekend to end up leading the championship standings after the opening round, and fellow Kawasaki rider Bruno Ieraci would finish third, who was only 0.116 seconds from the win himself.

Alex Lowes
“I am really happy with how our Sunday went because this is not the easiest track for us. It has been a difficult weekend and we didn’t really have the speed in the recent tests or on Friday in Free Practice. So to get three top six results is good. I was really strong at the end of the last race, trying to get into the top five. After Australia we were expecting a lot but we know this track is quite difficult. I enjoyed the Superpole Race and feeling comfortable with the bike. I was able to do the best laps we have made at the track and improve my race time compared to last year by quite a lot. Overall, we have to be happy. I enjoyed the team’s home race and I am already looking forward to the next round in Assen.”
Inigo Iglesias Bravo
“I was a little bit hungry. There are always great battles in Supersport 300 racing but I have come here with a new team and new goals. It was a shame after the final result on Saturday after I made another rider crash. But it happened and it is what it is. On Sunday I knew that I had the pace and that my bike is really, really good. We worked really hard on the set-up and I could do what I wanted. I was, all race long, saving the tyre to keep it for the last lap. My first ever win in WorldSSP300 is really important because I took a step back last year into IDM racing, and I was a little bit sad about not being here last year. I won IDM last year and I feel stronger, so I feel I am in a good moment.”
Lucas Mahias
“Even though I got the same result as yesterday, today's race was more satisfying. I was able to keep a good pace and the bike worked at its best. Due to the hot conditions I paid attention to tire wear during the race so as not to lose ground in the final stages - and I think I succeeded. Ninth place is not yet the result that the team or I deserve, but I consider it a step forward to greater competitiveness.”

“In this round our goal was to continue to adapt to the ZX-6R and to try to enter the top ten consistently. I think the balance is positive because today I finished ninth and I felt more comfortable on the bike. I hope that Öncü will be able to race again at Donington, but if that were not the case, I would be happy to remain a part of this team. I thank them for the excellent work done here at Misano.”
