HOMECOMING FOR REA AND LOWES
Jonathan Rea and Alex Lowes, representing the Kawasaki Racing Team, showcased exceptional skills at their home race held at Donington Park on Sunday, July 2nd. Rea achieved a remarkable milestone by clinching his 250th podium finish, out of which 208 were attained with Kawasaki. Additionally, Rea triumphed in the Superpole Qualifying, marking his first win in the session. Meanwhile, Alex Lowes demonstrated consistent performance by securing two top six finishes on the eventful final raceday of a hectic weekend.

Jonathan Rea
“I got a podium in the Superpole Race and then fifth in Race Two, but I would have been a bit happier if the results had been reversed. It is always nice to finish the day with a solid result. But if we start with the positives from this morning, I felt amazing for the ten lap race. It was just maximum attack from me, and I knew I needed to get to the front early. I think we probably deserved a bit more than third given where we had come from but I am happy and disappointed at the same time. In the final race I struggled from the beginning with rear tire traction and I could see quite early I was struggling on the edge of the tire. From mid race distance, when Alvaro passed me, I struggled so badly. It was really hard because it became so physical and the bike was moving a lot.”
Alex Lowes
“The general characteristic of the weekend was the same today. We were quite fast but when the tyre drops we struggle to keep our pace. Johnny manages it better, obviously, but it is a similar characteristic because he was fighting for the win, especially in the Superpole Race, but then runs out of grip. I felt a bit better than Johnny in the middle part of Race Two, and I was trying to relax behind him but when you have a group of seven you cannot relax too much. Petrucci passed me and was riding well, then Redding passed me and just upset my rhythm. I felt he bike was maybe working a little bit better than Johnny’s as we made quite a big change for the last race. The lap times are so fast from everyone it is a different game now. The set-up change we made for the last race seemed quite positive.”

“A very difficult race. I made a good start and was fighting at the front when a rider hit me and ran me off track. I ended up on the grass and it was a miracle I didn’t crash. I don’t know if it was caused by that, but shortly after I started to feel pain in the muscles in the right forearm, which seized up. It was too risky to continue in that condition and so I chose to retire. I’m sorry for the team as they’ve worked so hard this weekend and I really wanted to give them a good result.”

“In this round our goal was to continue to adapt to the ZX-6R and to try to enter the top ten consistently. I think the balance is positive because today I finished ninth and I felt more comfortable on the bike. I hope that Öncü will be able to race again at Donington, but if that were not the case, I would be happy to remain a part of this team. I thank them for the excellent work done here at Misano.”
