Kade Johnson: The Family Behind The Dream
Meet The Family Behind Johnson’s Path to Monster Energy® Kawasaki Team Green™
Behind nearly every rider who reaches the highest levels of amateur motocross is a much larger group of people who helped make the journey possible. For Monster Energy® Kawasaki Team Green™ rider Kade Johnson, few have played a greater role in that journey than the Castleman family, whose support came at a time when the Johnson family had given nearly everything they had to keep Kade’s racing career moving forward. Long before Johnson became a Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green™ rider, his parents, Brittany and Tony, balanced family life, the demands of amateur motocross, and full-time careers in healthcare, while pouring everything they had into giving their son every opportunity they could. As Johnson continued progressing through the amateur ranks, the resources required to keep progressing with him continued to grow. “We had reached a point of complete exhaustion,” Brittany said. “We had poured everything we had into Kade’s dream, our time, energy, and finances, and we were financially depleted. We had given everything we had, and we didn’t know how much longer we could continue.”
Despite the challenges his family faced behind the scenes, Johnson continued giving his parents every reason to believe their sacrifices were worthwhile. He trained relentlessly, prioritized his health and development, and maintained nearly straight A’s throughout high school during all four years. His actions continued showing his family how seriously he took the opportunity they were working so hard to provide, and as Brittany explained, “...as long as he wasn’t willing to give up on himself, we weren’t willing to give up on him.” Still, there came a point when determination alone could not solve the growing demands of the journey. Brittany remembers praying for help and asking for the right people to enter their lives if racing was truly the path her son was meant to continue pursuing. Somewhere during that period, the Johnson family met Jake and Tiffany Castleman and their children, Ella and Aiden.

Around that same time, Jake and Tiffany Castleman were looking for a way to make a meaningful impact within their local racing community. After watching Johnson win in Foxborough during the 2025 Supercross season, they approached his privateer van in Pittsburgh and introduced themselves, quickly realizing how close the two families lived and connecting with Johnson’s personality. As they got to know him and saw firsthand how much he and his family had sacrificed for racing, their belief in him continued to grow. The Castlemans began making sacrifices of their own, putting vacations and other expenses aside to invest in Johnson’s future, while even members of Tiffany’s job back home contributed by helping with expenses such as flights. What began as a simple introduction soon became a shared commitment to helping Johnson continue pursuing a dream both families believed in.

While the Castlemans helped provide the financial resources necessary to continue racing, their investment in Johnson extended much further. They prioritized his health, recovery, sleep, nutrition, and training, while surrounding him with people who could teach and challenge him as both an athlete and young adult. Brittany compares their approach to the familiar saying about teaching someone to fish rather than simply giving them one, because their support was focused not only on keeping Johnson racing, but preparing him for his future. “Yes, they helped us when we needed it,” Brittany said. “But more importantly, they helped teach Kade how to fish. They didn’t just provide for today, they helped build his future by surrounding him with the right people, knowledge, and experiences.”

Some of the most important lessons Johnson learned from the Castleman family, however, had little to do with racing. As the two families grew closer, Jake, Tiffany, Ella, and Aiden became an important part of the Johnsons’ lives, with Aiden developing an especially meaningful relationship with Kade. Aiden, who had special needs and recently passed away, helped teach Johnson lessons about compassion, patience, and understanding. Although he could not communicate through words, his influence taught Johnson to look beyond what someone could or couldn’t physically do, and recognize the value and impact every person can have on those around them. “None of us realized at first how important he would become, or how much he would teach us without ever speaking a word,” Brittany said. “Through Aiden, Kade learned compassion, patience, kindness, and understanding. He learned to see beyond what someone can or cannot do, and to recognize the value in every person.”
Watching Jake, Tiffany, and Ella love and care for Aiden also gave Johnson an example of loyalty and compassion, while the relationship between the two families continued to grow. After years of trying to carry the demands of Johnson’s career themselves, Brittany also learned that accepting help didn’t diminish what her family had sacrificed, and instead gave Johnson an example of generosity he could someday extend to someone else. “At first, it was hard to receive help,” Brittany said. “We had worked so hard for so long, that accepting support felt unfamiliar. But over time, we learned something important: giving and receiving are part of the same cycle. When you receive with gratitude, you create space to one day give back.”

Today, Johnson continues chasing the same dream his family once wondered whether they would have the resources to sustain, now as a Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green rider with an entire network of people behind him. The Castlemans helped open doors that ultimately led him to the opportunity, but their influence can be seen beyond his racing career in how he takes care of himself, builds relationships, makes decisions, and appreciates the people who have helped him reach each new stage. “This journey has become about so much more than racing,” Brittany said. “It’s about people, relationships, growth, faith, compassion, and love. It’s about a community that lifts each other higher and reminds us we are never meant to do life alone.” The Castlemans entered Johnson’s life at a point when his family needed help continuing the journey, but what they provided became much greater than the opportunity. They helped give Johnson the people, knowledge, and experiences necessary to continue building his future, while showing him the importance of doing the same for others. As his career continues to grow, their impact will remain not only in the opportunities they helped create, but in the person Johnson has become because of them.
